Miami, FL – A new Facebook video released by The Plantain, a Miami-based satirical news website, highlights the long and willful inaction of Senator Marco Rubio, Governor Rick Scott, and the Republican-majority Congress to protect the people of Florida from the Zika virus.

Like an old horror movie gone bad, the video underscores how Republican leaders kept putting “poison-pill” proposals they knew would sink the legislation even as their own party members from Florida called for rapid passage. While Sen. Rubio, Gov. Scott and others held countless press conferences they never publically called out their own leaders for putting politics before people. As the video suggests, the tactics could only be one of two things – pure political stunts or a poorly thought through way to push ideology on people in a time of need.

Not once does the video suggest any pro-active, helpful steps taken, because helping hardworking middle class Americans is not something anyone would ever accuse this Republican-led Congress of doing. Senator Marco Rubio’s and Governor Rick Scott’s refusal to denounce the decision of Republican leaders in Washington shows that they do not have the best interests of their constituents at heart.

Rubio’s willful inaction to denounce the Republican leadership in Congress has damaged his reelection prospects this November. His opponent, Rep. Patrick Murphy, has been vocal on the House floor in pushing for reasonable legislation. “We can’t keep putting ideology above the health and safety of Florida families,” said Murphy early in September.

The video concludes by denouncing the GOP’s “next creation”: Donald Trump.
